Unfollowing You, By Komal Kapoor
*
I found this in a cute little boutique in downtown Wilmington, NC, and it's a fun addition to your shelf, and it's a quick read, but it's not my favorite.
*
First, I love the idea of a collection of short poems put together into a book to tell a story. With a beginning, middle, and ending, screenshots, and text chains, it's a unique collection of poems.
*
Although this is a quick read, I feel like a couple of the poems were easy to skim. I would've liked a few longer poems. There seemed to be so many short poems that stayed on the surface and felt a little repetitive.
*
I wanted a little more from the other characters. It was hard to relate to the main character when she seemed so distant from them herself.
*
Overall, I like the idea but I wanted more from the execution.

'I wondered if I’d find the place where I belonged and would finally feel. . . complete. All I’d have to do was mount my horse and leave—throw my hands wide and fly away on the wind toward the stars that beckoned me to find them. But my responsibilities made me ignore their pull. So here I stayed. Away from wherever it was my soul longed to be.'
