Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones, by James Clear
*
A well-known resource for students, working adults, busy parents, and anyone else who needs a little balance in their life that deserves every ounce of recognition it has already gained and more.
*
This book makes my Top 5, and by that I mean, it’s one of my Top 5 favorite books that I’ve EVER read. This book breaks down the importance of forming good habits, how to get started forming positive habits, and just how much one small change can alter your life.
*
James Clear lays out what becomes painfully obvious in a way that will inspire you and motivate you to make changes right away. Not only does he offer brilliant tips, but they are tips and tricks that will last. The point of forming these small habits is that over time they can add up to something big, and by slowly integrating things into your life you set yourself up for success.
*
Here are a few of the most influential quotes that I noted.
“Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become.”
*
“Goals are good for setting a direction, but systems are best for making progress.”
*
“You should be far more concerned with your current trajectory than with your current results.”
*

Atomic Habits is sort of anti-everything-we-currently-know at first glance, which may sound daunting or may be exactly what you need. Either way, we are an instant gratification, immediate results sort of generation. The message behind Atomic Habits is that immediate results are often impossible to maintain, and they’re not a realistic way to live your day-to-day life. Small changes that don’t disrupt your life are what lead to results in the long run.
*
Another favorite quote: “Some people spend their entire lives waiting for the time to be right to make an improvement.”

'I wondered if I’d find the place where I belonged and would finally feel. . . complete. All I’d have to do was mount my horse and leave—throw my hands wide and fly away on the wind toward the stars that beckoned me to find them. But my responsibilities made me ignore their pull. So here I stayed. Away from wherever it was my soul longed to be.'
