Where is the best place to buy your books in 2023?​

Have you heard of Bookshop.org? You might think it’s just another book-selling site, but it goes way beyond buying and selling!

If you’re already buying books online, why not take advantage of this opportunity and give back and support local bookstores? Amazon is great, and as a self-published author, I believe they do provide some valuable tools for authors, but they’ve created a monopoly on books. This year, I am dedicated to buying my books from somewhere new. Every purchase at Bookshop.org supports a local bookstore financially and brings awareness to new stores and new authors.

Local bookstores are crucial for our towns and cities. They often play an important role in getting the word out about new authors or lesser-known writers. They diversify downtown areas, provide a space for local readers and writers to gather, and encourage reading, which teaches empathy. Local bookshops also expose readers to more diverse literature. Our computers and phones know what we like, which can cause us to get stuck in a rut when it comes to what we’re reading. If you’re face to face with a new book, a new genre, or simply an interesting cover that you’ve never seen, you are more likely to pick it up and give it a try.

Visit the find a local bookstore page and select the bookstore you'd like to support. If you don't choose a store, you'll contribute to a profit-sharing pool that helps all the stores on BookShop.org.

Your order will be filled directly by the distributor, and the full profit from your purchase will be sent to the bookstore you selected.
