Self-publishing has been a long, stressful, but educational process. After edits, rereads, proofreads, cover design changes, marketing, and formatting, it’s time for Where Is She? to be released! My new book will be for sale on June 20, 2022! Join my mailing list for updates!

Why did I lie?
I hadn’t planned on lying. When that stranger handed me the journal and looked at me with his big, desperate eyes, I wasn’t planning anything. I intended to give it to whoever asked for it. This wasn’t some elaborate plan or a scheme. I just didn’t open my mouth. It was like my mind decided without me that I should hang on to it.

---------------------------------
All Maggie wanted to do was photograph an old bridge and avoid thinking about the recent death of her mother. What she wasn’t planning to find by the Mississippi riverside was a dying man, left for dead, shoving a mysterious journal at her with blood-covered hands. What she really wasn’t planning to do was stash the journal and lie to the police about it, nevermind read it.

Page after page, Maggie is drawn into the complicated life of Cassie, a single mother from a complicated past, who’s now intertwined with a prominent crime family in Minneapolis. What begins as a distant threat on paper — a distraction — becomes horrifyingly real when Maggie discovers that someone is following her.

In a race against a dangerous family whose powerful grip reaches across the city, Maggie and an unexpected companion search for answers about the dying man and Cassie’s involvement. The question is, where is she?

Frequently Asked Questions about Where Is She?

What genre is this book?
Suspense/Mystery - this book is somewhat of a cozy mystery with lots of suspense elements!

Will there be an eBook version?
Yes, there will be a paperback, hardback, and ebook version of my book. Join my mailing list for release dates.

Is this book appropriate for teens?
I would say that my book is appropriate for 15+ years old. This is because there is so some strong language and some violence in the book.

Did you try to get traditionally published first?
Yes. I sent over 50 query letters and finally decided that I wanted to see the book finished, and that was more important to me than getting an agent or book deal. I didn’t want the manuscript to collect dust and never get read.

Are you glad you self-published?
Yes! I have learned so much over the past year and it’s rounded out my understanding of writing a book in ways that I never considered before. This process will only make the next book easier. Not to mention, I feel like this book is truly mine. I chose everything from the opening quote to the font on the front cover.

What’s something you learned about self-publishing?
I learned that the publishing industry is incredibly difficult to break into. The first step is to query an agent and that task alone is daunting and time-consuming. Each agent takes approximately 6-8 weeks to get back to you, that’s if they ever get back to you. Each one requires a very specific set of materials that must be adhered to strictly or will result in automatic rejection. Some agents even expect you to include a marketing plan.

What are some tropes in Where Is She?
Some suspense tropes that you will find in my book are listed:
Race against the clock
Corrupt authority figures
Left for dead
I’m being followed
Find them before someone else does
