5 Reasons Journaling Can Improve Your Day in 2022

1.)  Build creativity into your schedule. Do you find yourself saying I used to write all the time or I’ve always wanted to write a book? Do you find yourself thinking about the business you want to start, or blog you want to write, and all of the other creative ideas in your life, but they just feel too enormous to even start thinking about? The best thing you can do for your creativity is to allow yourself the time to be creative. Journaling is a great way to brainstorm, make lists, set goals, and just get the creative juices flowing. If you set aside five to ten minutes a day to write down your ideas or work on a plan, then before you know it you’ve formed a creative habit. Doing something regularly keeps it in the forefront of your mind. Small ideas that begin in the morning have the rest of the day to take root and flourish throughout the day, even if you aren’t setting aside any more time than those five minutes. Start small, set a three-minute goal to sit with your journal each day. Don’t pressure yourself, just have fun with it and those three minutes will grow and a list of goals will turn into a plan.

2.)  Black and white plans are one step closer to being achieved. If you’re feeling overwhelmed with your list of things to do then journaling might just be the perfect fix for you. If you take five minutes in the morning to think about your day then you are one step closer to tackeling those goals. Take a moment to access your priorities, think about the mindset you need to be in to complete them, and make a plan. Spending a few minutes each morning to map out your goals makes a huge impact and it can help quiet your mind, organize your thoughts, and put your to-do list into perspective.
3.)  Are you a writer, a poet, or a story teller? Sometimes putting pen to paper is the toughest part of writing. If you start each day with some free journaling, you’ll be surprised by your own creativity. Just start writing. Just get the ink flowing. Thinking about writing makes you a writer, putting pen to paper makes you a practicing writer. There’s nothing more inspiring than a beautiful notebook and a blank page. A few ideas in the morning could be the first draft of a poem, or the outline of a book, start practicing now!
4.)   Get time away from your screen. If you spend the majority of your day staring down your computer screen or scrolling endlessly through social media, journaling is a relaxing way to disconnect. Even if you just write out what you’re thankful for, what you have to do tomorrow, or what you accomplished during the day. Taking a few minutes to focus on something without a glow, especially in the morning or before bed can really give your eyes a break and your monkey brain.

5 Beginner tips for journaling:
  1. Set a timer. This will help you stay on track and stay focused.
  2. Try different prompts when you’re first starting out. It shouldn’t be something you dread or struggle through. Find a prompt that you enjoy.
  3. Try a guided journal if you’re stuck.
  4. Don’t worry about anyone ever reading what you write. Let your mind relax and write what you feel.
  5. Don’t spend too much time rereading what you’ve written. Focus on how you feel in the moment, go in a direction that makes you feel good, and then let it go!

  2. Write three goals for the day and include smaller tasks to tackle.
  3. Write about a challenge that you were faced with and overcame.

The first thing you need to do is get a journal that you love! Find one that speaks to you and that you feel inspired by. Once you have a journal, the most important thing is to put pen to paper, even for just a few minutes a day. Set a timer for three minutes and dive right in! There’s no wrong way to get started.
